Serve Credit Union Welcomes Andy Johnson as COO

DES MOINES — Serve Credit Union, a financial cooperative founded in the “people helping people” spirit in 1931, has hired Andy Johnson as its new Chief Operations Officer (COO) and has also promoted two team members as it focuses on professional growth for 2024. 

Additional details include:

Andy Johnson addition: Serve hired Andy Johnson as its Chief Operations Officer earlier this month. Johnson will assist the CEO in the overall management and strategic direction of the credit union. He will work in all credit union operations, which include planning, recommending, implementing programs and policies and providing general administrative direction. 

With more than 15 years of financial and regulatory compliance experience, he is a familiar face in the Iowa credit union industry. Prior to Serve, he spent three years at Community Choice Credit Union in Johnston, Iowa  as a Compliance Officer and three years at Security State Bank in Radcliffe, Iowa as the Executive Vice President of Compliance. In those roles, he built a compliance monitoring system, fraud, and internal audit programs from the ground up.

Johnson received his BA in history at Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa, MBA at the University of Phoenix in Phoenix, Arizona and Master of Jurisprudence (MJ) in Compliance and Risk Management at Drake University Law School in Des Moines, Iowa. He has his Certified Fraud Examiner(CFE) designation and is a member of the CUNA Compliance Council with America’s Credit Unions (formerly called the Credit Union National Association).

Kalyn Hindman promotion: Urbandale branch employee, Kalyn Hindman, has been promoted from Financial Services Officer to Senior Financial Services Officer. In this role, Kalyn will work heavily in mortgage lending and continue originating loans full-time and splitting extra duties such as account/membership openings and credit and debit card maintenance with other Financial Services Officers.

“Mortgage lending is a big passion of mine,” Hindman said. “I am thrilled to be spending my time serving members in a bigger capacity and helping them reach their goals.”

Miranda Sjullie promotion: Urbandale branch employee, Miranda Sjullie, has been promoted from Member Service Representative to Member Service Representative II. In this role, Miranda will be a prominent leader in our lobbies and will assist with the training of Member Service Representatives and opening/maintaining sub accounts.

“I am so excited to grow in this role,” Sjullie said. “It will provide so many opportunities for me to discover where I want to go in my career with Serve Credit Union.”

Serve is also celebrating its 93rd birthday this month. In 2023 alone, the credit union originated more than $23 million in loans and grew its member certificate program by 39% from 2022.
