Affinity Credit Union Awards $6,000 in Student Scholarships

Affinity Credit Union awards $6,000 in scholarships and is pleased to recognize its scholarship recipients.

Gavin Godwin will graduate from Saydel High School and plans to attend Wartburg College where he hopes to pursue a degree in Biochemistry. Gavin holds a grade point average of 4.12 and is a member of the National Leadership. Gavin has been nominated for the Des Moines Register’s Academic All-State and is a team captain on the football team, receiving all district honors as a linebacker.

Madison Rice will graduate from Saydel High School where she is a member of the student council and has lettered in football and wrestling cheer for 3 years. Madison is also lettered in golf and is a recipient of the Most Improved Player and Eagle Award. Madison is attending the Aveda Institute of Des Moines where she will obtain her license through the State of Cosmetology and Esthiology.

Peyton Houangvan is graduating from North High School with a grade point average of 3.7. Peyton is a member of the National Honor Society and received the Des Moines Public Schools’ Stellar Award in Leadership. Peyton serves as Financial Manager of her school’s student body senate and is also a student leader of the Polar Bear Crew. Peyton will be attending Grand View University and majoring in Biotechnology.

Affinity's scholarship program was established in 1999 to encourage young adults to learn about the credit union movement and to prepare themselves for future challenges. Affinity Credit Union awards multiple $1,500 scholarships every year to talented college-bound students at Des Moines North, Des Moines Lincoln & Saydel High School. Students who applied for the scholarship were judged on an essay and resume they submitted.
