Affinity Credit Union Awards $2,000 in Student Scholarships during Iowa's Latino Heritage Festival
At Affinity Credit Union, it is our mission to build better lives which is why we strive to make a difference in the communities we serve. As a friend of this this year’s Iowa Latino Heritage Festival, Affinity was pleased to present two $1,000 scholarships to award recipients, Alexis Bravo and Alfredo Frontera.
Alexis Bravo is a student at Hawkeye Community College where she is pursuing a dental hygienist certification. Alexis holds a grade point average of 4.00 and is a student ambassador for Hawkeye Community College and president of the Inclusion and Success Services club formerly known as TRIO. Affinity’s scholarship award is important to Alexis because it is one step closer to helping her become a first-generation college graduate.
Alfredo Frontera is a freshman at Iowa State University where he is pursuing a career in animal science with a minor in music. Alfredo is currently involved with Iowa State’s Puerto Rican Student Association. Affinity’s scholarship award is important to Alfredo because it allows him to practice his Puerto Rican culture within the community.
Iowa’s Latino Heritage Festival is the largest ethnic event in the state of Iowa. It started about 16 years ago to celebrate the contributions from the 20 Latin countries that are presented in Iowa.
