Serve Credit Union to launch their Blue Shoe Box subscription box to youth members!
Serve Credit Union, a financial cooperative that serves those who serve the community, recently announced its launch of the Blue Shoe Box, a free subsciption program to help youth members engage with their finances and learn the importance of financial literacy.
Starting in January 2021, all members ages 0-17 who sign up will receive their bi-annual boxes, which is catered to their age. Depending on the age groups, there will be various activities, rewards, resources, special invites and more.
"We are thrilled to launch the Blue Shoe Box subscriptions to our youth members," said Jami Weems, CEO of Serve. "Serve Credit Union is committed to ensuring our younger members understand the importance of saving and get engaged with their finances at an early age. The Blue Shoe Box is the perfect way to get them excited about being a member of a credit union and strengthening their knowledge and financial awareness".
The Blue Shoe Box is an idea spurred from the 2019 Iowa Credit Union League's Iowa Innovation Group (IIG). IIG is a yearly leadership group where credit union professionals come together to create innovative solutions to help Iowans improve their financial lives.
"This is exciting to see this idea come to fruition," said Andrea Dose, Vice President of the Iowa Credit Union League and facilitator of IIG. "Serve moved an idea forward from the Iowa Innoation Group and made it tangible so their younger members can stay engaged about financial wellness."
The name "Blue Shoe Box" also has a historic connection to the credit union, who is celebrating their 90th Birthday this coming Januaary. Founded in 1931 as the Des Moines Police Officer's Credit Union, members originally made deposits, withdrawals and loans with employees out of a shoe box. Now Serve is bringing a little bit of history to its members' front doors.
