Asset Recovery Specialist

JOB TITLE:               ASSET RECOVERY SPECIALIST                                   





This position exists to monitor the residential mortgage loans currently in the foreclosure process with a view to minimize potential losses and preserve the lien-holders’ interests. Responsible for participating in and conducting all collection activities with accordance to applicable investor timelines, regulatory compliance deadlines, and company guidelines. Effectively communicate with attorney firms and invested parties to ensure all parties are informed, held accountable, and deadlines are met.


  1. Perform collections and recovery of delinquent accounts. Perform follow ups, and process repossession charge offs.

  2. Liaison between the credit union collection attorney(s) for real estate assets.

  3. Audit and review foreclosure activities to ensure adherence in regards to proper coding of accounts, notification of property conditions, and monthly delinquency reporting.

  4. Service accounts subject to Bankruptcy, Repossession, and Foreclosure to maintain accurate records of servicing and provide recommended actions.

  5. Complete required reporting for properties in foreclosure process.

  6. Perform property inspections and handling of repossessed/foreclosed property to prepare for resale: contact vendors to transfer utilities, assist with maintaining and managing foreclosure and marketed properties.

  7. Work closely with members, other departments, and legal firms to identify modification opportunities or foreclosure alternatives. Assist with and provide necessary documents to member for review and signature. Process or coordinate processing of agreements.

  8. Track expenses and perform GL review and file claims as necessary.

  9. Work in conjunction with the AVP Loan Operationsto properly liquidate repossessed real estate insuring that the credit union receives the best sale price possible.

  10. Fill out and process insurance claim forms and follow up collateral protection insurance.

  11. Maintain and update necessary reports.

  12. Actively and thoughtfully communicate with supervisor, plan goals and development, take accountability for their actions and striving for excellence.


  13. Promote products and services.

  14. Attend all meetings as required.

  15. Maintain clean and professional work area and appearance.

  16. Maintain positive public relations and promote credit union within the community.

  17. Complete educational programs as required.

  18. Perform the following commitments of service to each and every member at all times:

  19. Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or related field.

  • 3-5 years of collection experience with knowledge of collection practices, real estate and bankruptcy laws and regulations.

  • 2-3 years of credit union or financial experience.

  • 2-3 years of experience working with foreclosures and repossessions.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Pleasant outgoing personality.

  • Ability to perform under pressure.

  • Thorough knowledge of Credit Consumer laws.

  • Accuracy and attention to detail required.

  • Knowledge of all laws and regulations regarding this position.

  • Excellent analytical skills.

  • Team player.

  • Computer knowledge.

  • Decision making skills.


Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

In the course of work the employee is subject to both environmental conditions and activities that occur inside and outside. The employee is subject to atmospheric conditions that may affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.


The ability to communicate effectively with members, staff, and contacts outside of the credit union in a polite, courteous timely, accurate and efficient manner. Patience in dealing with a difficult member.
