Payroll Administrator

Job:  FT Payroll Administrator

Location:  Open in Des Moines Metro, Omaha Metro and the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area

Summary

The Payroll Administrator is responsible for all tasks necessary to accomplish the multi-state payroll processing objectives, including time entry, tax reconciliation, reporting, benefit deductions and audit documentation for all Veridian companies. This position ensures all employees are paid in an accurate and timely fashion.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare and process payrolls for all Veridian companies.
  • Complete all required bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly payroll reports.
  • Complete all Federal and State compliance filings monthly, quarterly and annually.
  • Lead and process compensation adjustments and incentive payouts, both individual and annual.
  • Partner with Web Development to provide essential data for calculation and processing of the annual incentive database.
  • Create custom reports to meet all requests, including building custom templates to interface with operating systems of internal departments and external vendors.
  • Maintain General Ledger Interface mapping in HRIS system for accurate pay data import into the Veridian Accounting software program.
  • Maintain HRIS system to ensure departmental efficiencies and quality. Troubleshoot system issues as needed.
  • Responsible for administration, training, and maintenance of Time and Labor System.
  • Maintain payroll processes with thorough documentation of procedures.
  • Maintain relationships with applicable vendors, conducting cost comparisons, and preparing invoices for payment.
  • Maintain regulatory and technical knowledge by reviewing professional publications, participating in on-line courses and webinars, etc.
  • Prepare payroll surveys and correspondence, including follow-up, as required.
  • Partner with Benefits Administrator to complete all 457(b) and (f) Plan duties to ensure timelines are met, employee data is maintained and applicable reports are processed.
  • Partner with the Benefits Administrator to complete the annual 401(k) census.
  • Process Verifications of Employment as needed.
  • Provide back-up as required for the Benefits Administrators and Benefits Coordinator.
  • Provide exceptional services and payroll information by answering questions and requests from employees.
  • Manage Service requests in a ticketing system; efficiently prioritize issues as they arise.
  • Contribute positively to team effort by consistently achieving established goals and expectations.
  • Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll and benefit operations by keeping information confidential.

This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.

Travel

Limited travel expected.

Required Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business, or Organizational Development or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience of 8+ years.
  • 5+ years of progressive work experience in payroll administration and processing.
  • Strong knowledge and familiarity with payroll procedures to include applicable tax/federal and multi-state payroll regulations.
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Must include robust experience with Excel.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Specialized training in  payroll, compensation, employment law, and/or employee relations.
  • Experience working in ADP / Workforce Now
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR, SPHR), Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), or like certifications.
