Auditor / Internal Controls Analyst

Job Summary

The person in this role will oversee the internal audit process for the Credit Union, with a focus on assessing the effectiveness of controls, compliance with laws, rules, regulations, policies, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. This includes involvement in all functional areas of the Credit Union, including examination of financial records for accuracy, reviewing efficiency of operations, documenting internal control systems, and reporting of findings with recommended remediation plans to department heads, Senior Management, and the Board of Directors. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain a Risk-Based-Audit approach, and communicate progress to Senior Management for all credit union audit-related activities. Continually assess risks, findings, and recommendations of outside auditors / examiners, and changes in policies and regulations to effectively prioritize audit coverage.
  • Perform financial audit procedures to determine whether internal controls are adequate to ensure compliance with Credit Union goals, objectives, strategic initiatives, and policies.
  • Through the audit process, determine effectiveness, adequacy, and appropriateness of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate internal and external audit activities with the Supervisory Committee, External CPA firm and other outsourced audit activities.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Three years to five years of similar or related experience is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.
  • Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature. Motivating, influencing, and/or training others is key at this level. Motivating, influencing, and/or training others is key at this level.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Also should possess good administrative skills and be able to carry a task from start to finish.
