Iowa Credit Union PAC Endorses Candidates for State and Federal Office
DES MOINES – The Iowa Credit Union Political Action Committee (CUPAC) announced its endorsed candidates today running in 2018 state and federal races. A bi-partisan organization, CUPAC supports candidates who demonstrate support of credit unions’ efforts to improve the financial lives of the more than 1.1 million member-owners in Iowa. CUPAC’s decisions are made by a nine-person Advocacy Committee of the Iowa Credit Union League (ICUL), comprised of credit union leaders from around the state.
“Iowa needs credit unions now more than ever before. These legislative candidates understand that financial choice and competition benefit all Iowa consumers,” said Murray Williams, Chief Executive Officer of ICUL. “CUPAC is an important tool to support candidates that demonstrate their understanding of the not-for-profit, cooperative structure of credit unions. Credit unions return money to Iowa consumers through better rates and fewer fees, and more than one million Iowans depend on credit unions to help them keep more of their hard-earned money in their pockets.”
CUPAC endorsements are based on voting records and responses from candidates on important issues affecting Iowa credit unions and the financial lives of their members. Through the cooperative structure, Iowa credit unions save their members more than $100 million annually compared to what they would have paid for similar services at a bank.

ICUL is the trade association that represents the interests of Iowa credit unions and their more than 1.1 million members. Credit unions are not-for-profit, financial cooperatives owned and operated by their members. Iowans use their credit union membership to receive higher interest rates on savings and lower interest rates on loans.
