Affinity Credit Union Charity Golf Outing Results In $20,000 Donation
Des Moines, Iowa – Affinity Credit Union recently held its 27th annual charity golf outing to benefit a worthy local charity or non-profit. The event was a tremendous success, resulting in a $20,000 donation to Ellipsis – formerly known as Youth Emergency Services & Shelter (YESS) – Iowa’s largest and most comprehensive shelter for children. Nearly $15,000 was raised from the event through the generosity of the 100+ golfers and event sponsors, with Affinity Credit Union providing an additional donation of $5,000.
"When compassionate people come together to support kids and families, great things can happen," said Chris Koepplin, CEO of Ellipsis, formerly known as YESS and Youth Homes of Mid America. "Thank you to everyone who made time to support kids and families in our community. Special thank you to Jim Dean, Kris Laufer, and the entire team at Affinity Credit Union!"
Numerous Affinity team members attended the event, volunteering their time to ensure all participants had a fun and fulfilling day on the golf course. Event sponsors such as Bridgestone Americas/Firestone Ag, Credit Union National Association (CUNA) and SHAZAM provided crucial financial support.
Over the event’s 27-year history, Affinity Credit Union has helped to raise over $350,000 on behalf of local charities and organizations.
About Youth Emergency Services & Shelter (YESS), now known as Ellipsis
Youth Emergency Services & Shelter (YESS) has merged with Youth Homes of Mid-America (YHMA), and the organizations announced a new name for the combined entity: Ellipsis.
The merger, which was effective Aug. 1, brings together two of Iowa’s leading human service providers. Unification of the organizations is beneficial for Iowa children, families, the state of Iowa, the Iowa Department of Human Services, Juvenile Court Services and the many stakeholders each organization independently serves.
For more than three decades, YESS has provided a safety net of programs designed to help children including emergency shelter, crisis nursery care, mental health counseling and care coordination as Iowa’s largest provider of emergency services for youth. Likewise, for nearly 80 years, YHMA has been committed to helping troubled youth and teens, and their families, find a path to independence, connecting them with resources and informal support systems.
