Advantage Credit Union provides meal to senior apartment complex after derecho takes out electricity
Advantage Credit Union in Newton recently provided a meal to the residents of the Linden Place Apartments (formerly McCann Village) after the derecho knocked out electrity to the facility. Linden Place Apartments is a low-income apartment complex for seniors as well as those with mobility issues. As an independent living facility, the apartment complex does not provide meals to the residents. The electrical outage lasted for five days, leaving over 70 residents without air conditioning or fans as well as spoiling all food that was left in the refrigerator.
Loan Officer and 2019 Crasher Ashley Gipe saw a post on Facebook asking for businesses to help and immediately worked with the staff to put a plan together to help. Advantage Credit Union teamed up to provide a hot meal for all the residents to enjoy. Ashley said, "I really felt like we needed to be involved in the community, especially in a time like this. While we all had electrical issue and things going on in our own homes, we needed to recognize and be there for people in our community who were in need of more assistance."
