ICUL Donates $25,000 to ICUF for Disaster Grant Funding
(Des Moines, Iowa) – The Iowa Credit Union League (ICUL) would like to announce a donation of $25,000 to the Iowa Credit Union Foundation (ICUF) for funding of disaster relief grants following the July 19 tornadoes that damaged communities across Central Iowa.
The tornado that struck the Marshalltown area impacted members of two Iowa credit unions, Lennox Employees Credit Union and MEMBERS1st Community Credit Union. Employees of the Iowa Credit Union League have been onsite in Marshalltown, visited with these credit unions’ leaders and assessed the damage to the community.
“ICUL’s contribution to ICUF comes at a time when Iowans are in need," said Murray Williams, President/CEO, ICUL. “We believe strongly in ICUF’s mission and we hope our donation will help many credit union members who have been impacted by recent disaster events."
ICUL is an avid supporter of ICUF and its mission in action to empower people and communities to achieve financial well-being by championing the credit union philosophy of "people helping people." ICUL has donated more than $250,000 to ICUF over the past five years to support its credit union-focused efforts.
“As we continue to hear stories from our credit union members, we see a growing need for assistance,” said Janet Borer, CEO of MEMBERS1st Community Credit Union. “It is humbling to see the credit union community come together in support of our credit union members in need.”
Over the past 20 years, ICUF has served countless Iowans by providing more than $500,000 in disaster relief to those in need. Credit union members who have lost their homes due to disaster and have financial need are eligible to apply for disaster grants from ICUF through their credit union. So far this year, ICUF has awarded $5,500 in grants to eligible credit union members who have faced flooding and fires, resulting in displacement from their homes.
“I want to thank the teams at ICUL and ICUF for their quick response to our community following this life-changing event,” said Carl Mundth, President/CEO of Lennox Employees Credit Union. “Their assistance will make a difference in our members’ lives and we are very appreciative.”
