16 New Innovators Join the Iowa Credit Union League’s Iowa Innovation Group

Des Moines, Iowa -- The Iowa Credit Union League (ICUL) selected 16 exceptional credit union executives to join its Iowa Innovation Group (IIG) program, which fosters the development of new ideas and innovations for credit unions. This is the sixth consecutive year of the impactful program, marking 100 innovators to date.

Expect big things from these newest IIG members:

Noel Kurt - Collins Community Credit Union

Wesley Krenz - Community 1st Credit Union

Each member will serve a six-month term, participate in periodic meetings led by ICUL and the Filene Research Institute, and be responsible for piloting new ideas at their credit unions.

Modeled after Filene’s i3 (Ideas, Innovation, Implementation), in the last four years, IIG has already produced 20 innovative concepts addressing real members’ needs that credit unions in the state of Iowa are invited to collaborate on for implementation. This year’s class is looking to add four more concepts to this portfolio. As in previous years, the new four innovative concepts will be presented at the Iowa Credit Union Convention on September 19-21 in Coralville, IA.

"The financial industry is experiencing significant changes in the landscape, and disruption is inevitable. Innovation must go from buzzword to a capability that as many credit union employees as possible need the opportunity, tools, and safe environment to develop these skills with the goal to create and test new ideas,” said Jim Niederhauser, ICUL Vice President. “With a strong pool of applicants for IIG, Iowa credit unions are certainly doing their part to improve consumers' lives through not-for-profit financial cooperatives."
