Legal Tip: Utilize Iowa's Electronic Real Estate Database
BHM Logo
Iowa’s official real estate database,, can be used as a resource to file and view real estate documents that have previously been filed with a county recorder’s office in Iowa. As a registered user, your credit union can:
  • View member real estate records to identify how real estate is held (Did the owners use full legal names? Was the property conveyed to a Trust?)
  • File a new deed and/or mortgage as part of a real estate closing. Electronic submission of documents is easy and can allow for time-sensitive real estate closings. No need to wait for original documents to be mailed.
  • Verify easements, shared parking lot agreements, and similar documents that may affect your credit union’s physical locations.

Access to this database is free of charge and can be a useful tool. Questions? Contact Barker, Hodgson & Miller, P.C. attorneys Elizabeth Hodgson or Julie Buenzow.
