Discounted Pricing for Legislative and Regulatory Issues Conference: Help Combat the Bankers Attacks on Iowa Credit Unions!
Take advantage of special pricing for this year's event to rally our voices as we Hike the Hill in support of Iowa credit unions.
Join us for the 2018 Legislative and Regulatory Issues Conference! This is a unique opportunity to advocate for credit unions and articulate the value we provide to consumers. During the first day of the conference, we will visiting the Capitol to ask legislators to protect credit unions' state tax status, as the banks will be working to include a tax increase on credit unions in any moving tax reform bill. It's important that we get as many people to the Capitol as possible to make our voice heard.
Special Pricing Offered
To offset the cost to attend the conference, full member credit unions will receive a one-time discounted price of $249 for two-day registration (regularly $349) and $125 for one-day registration (regularly $199). Small credit union discounts apply in addition to this year's special pricing! The discount code will be automatically applied at the registration tab.

Congress Passes Tax Reform; State Legislative Session Starting Soon
On Wednesday, the U.S. House and Senate passed the tax-reform bill, formally known as the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, and sent it to President Trump for his signature. CUNA has analyzed the legislation and, thanks to the collective efforts of credit unions across the country, we're pleased to share that the credit union federal income tax status is unchanged in the bill--despite the best efforts of the banks. Protecting our tax status in the first comprehensive tax reform bill since 1986 is significant victory and strong affirmation of the difference between credit unions and banks. Please
to read a CUNA summary of the bill's contents, as there are others items of interest to credit unions and members in the bill such as the deduction of mortgage interest.
Changing gears, the state legislative session begins on Monday, January 8. Beginning that Friday, January 12, the ICUL Legislative Forum will begin its weekly publication throughout the session, updating you on that week's activities of interest to credit unions. To subscribe to the Forum, please update your profile to receive the legislative alerts on the members-only website.
As you may be aware, the Iowa legislature and Governor Reynolds are very interested in pursuing state tax reform, which hasn't happened since the early 1990s. We will be asking for your grassroots assistance in the coming weeks to protect credit unions' state tax status, as the banks will be working to get a tax increase on credit unions included in any moving tax reform bill.
Help Raise Awareness about the Need to Protect Financial Choice in Tax Reform
ICUL, along with numerous Iowa credit union leaders, has been meeting with newspaper editorial boards around the state to educate them on the need to hold credit unions harmless in tax reform on the state and federal levels.
Following these meetings, local CEOs have submitted guest editorials to the paper in their community to underscore how credit unions earn their not-for-profit status. Several editorials have already been printed, including ones by:
UICCU CEO Jeff Disterhoft in the
Cedar Rapids Gazette
Ascentra CEO Dale Owen in the
Quad City Times
Veridian CEO Monte Berg in the
Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier
In addition, ICUL has been sharing facts about credit unions and banks on social media. Encourage your colleagues to watch for these on
Facebook
and
Twitter
, and help share to raise awareness. Use the hashtags #TaxReform and #ProtectFinancialChoice to ensure the posts are viewed by those discussing tax reform.
