Iowa Credit Unions See Double Digit Share, Mortgage and Auto Loan Growth
Callahan & Associates released its Quarterly Performance Summary for the third quarter of 2016.The summary compares Iowa credit unions to credit unions nationally and their banking competitors. According to the Sept. 30, 2016 summary, Iowa credit unions continued to perform extremely well and lead the way in a variety of financial metrics surpassing credit unions nationally and many of their bank competitors.
Credit unions in Iowa report loan growth of 14.4 percent bringing the total loan portfolio to $11.6 billion. First mortgage originations experienced a 27.1 percent year over year increase, to $1.7 billion. In aggregate, new and used auto loan balances experienced exceptional growth of 16.0 percent to top $4 billion. Share growth reported a year-over-year increase of 10.0 percent bringing total share balances to $12.7 billion.
The average member relationship is on the rise-up 8.1 percent to $20,375. An increase in the average member relationship coupled with double digit loan and share growth illustrates that Iowans depend on their credit union to meet their saving and borrowing needs.
