Founded in 1995 as the philanthropic arm of the Iowa Credit Union League, the Iowa Credit Union Foundation’s mission is to help Iowans build wealth, responsibility and independence, with the vision to eliminate poverty in the State of Iowa.
The Foundation’s Board of Directors has identified three Strategic Directives:
- Be the champions of financial literacy
- Provide tools for sustainable small businesses
- Give all Iowans access to financial services
In response to these directives, the Foundation supports the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy and chooses a Teacher of the Year, an educator who has successfully implemented a financial education component in his or her classroom.
The Foundation also provides a number of scholarships and grants:
- Family Involvement Board Scholarship
- League President’s Scholarship
- AWJ Scholarship
- Small Credit Union Government Affairs Conference Grant
- Small Credit Union Technology and Planning Grant
- Disaster Relief Grants
In addition, the Iowa Credit Union community has been a strong supporter of Children’s Miracle Network (CMN), and the Iowa Credit Union Foundation facilitates donations to CMN.
The Iowa Credit Union Foundation is part of the State Credit Foundation Network and is affiliated with the National Credit Union Foundation.
Fundraising Initiatives
The Foundation relies on voluntary contributions – both from individuals and credit unions – to fulfill its mission. Each year, the Foundation kicks off its fundraising efforts with its annual campaign to raise awareness about the programs Foundation dollars support. The Foundation sponsors an annual golf outing in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Iowa Corporate Central Credit Union in June. At the Foundation’s annual meeting in September, a silent auction is held to fundraise for the FIB scholarships. The Foundation also holds an annual benefit night as part of the Iowa Credit Union League Annual Conference. |
