The Iowa Credit Union Foundation and Iowa Credit Union League are partnering in a program designed to focus on the financial needs of underserved Iowans – primarily low-income Iowans, rural Iowans and small business owners.
To spearhead the program, a Director of Community Development coordinates the following list of objectives:
- Coordinate an extensive financial education program to positively impact the underserved target audience. This includes compiling financial education programs, seeking out new programs, communicating what is available to the membership and helping credit unions reach out to underserved communities.
- Seek grants and other funding for credit unions to enhance the financial wellbeing of Iowa’s underserved populations.
- Provide credit unions with training and assistance that will give them the knowledge and tools to serve the target audience.
- Serve as a resource for credit unions that wish to become low-income or community-development designated in order to better serve the target audience.
- Serve as a resource for credit unions that wish to set up branches or service centers in underserved areas. Maintain relationships with leaders of underserved communities. Assist in identifying target markets and audiences.
- Promote legislation and regulations that will help credit unions serve this target audience and provide added incentive to reach out to these communities.
